OK- I am in- how about you?














As many of you know, I moved here to Colorado about 6 months ago. And working from home does not give one as many opportunities to meet new people. Last week, I went to the quilt shop that is only about 2 miles from my house- isn't this great!- AND I made a new quilting friend! Even with laryngitis!

She is a recent transplant from North Carolina and has been here for about 5 months. So today, I am taking her on a little mini quilt shop hop.

There are quite a few great shops not too far away and she hasn't gotten to them yet.

Well, we must correct that!

So, first we are going to Harriet Hargrave's store, Harriet's Treadle Arts in Wheat Ridge. Then on to the Golden Quilt Company in Golden- they have wonderful fiber arts store in the back called Golden Fiber Arts. Lots of thread, paint, ribbons and just really fun stuff!

I just love to wander Golden's Main street which is not, Main Street. It's Washington Ave. Remind me to tell you someday where Main Street was in the town I grew up in!

Then on to downtown Denver to Fabric Bliss and Fancy Tiger Crafts. Love both of these places! And they both carry yarns- to feed my other addiction!

(And yes, Elizabeth and hubby, if you are reading this, I am driving into downtown Denver. Me. wish me luck!)

The back south a little to Snappy Quilts (isn't that a great name!)  and Holly's Quilt Cabin. What a great adventure!

I have lots of projects going- who doesn't? and I need a fabric infusion to the piles I grabbed from my stash.

This is the pile of fabrics for the Star Paper Piecing BOM over on Don't Call me Betsy. I got a bunch of them last year in New York on a quilt retreat with friends at O'Susannah's Quilts &Gifts in Watkins Glen.

Another great store with a wonderful set up on the second floor that you can rent out for retreats.

And these are FQs of California Girl that I picked up in CT at Yankee Quilter shortly before I left. Two great ladies, Barb and Cheryl- sisters- run that store.

(Don't tell hubby I bought fabric right when I was supposed to be purging for the move! But who could resist?) These will be for the Aurifil BOM.

I was pretty determined to use my stash for both of these projects and just add some extras.

I am leaving for Houston in 2 days and I have been meaning to make a couple of little bags. For things like my computer cord, the iPad cord...

I had made this bag a while ago that I use for my iPad when I want to take it with me.

Cute, huh?

But I hate having the cord all loose and stuff in there. Silly, I know. So yesterday I made the charger and cord a bag.

And then, because I did not want them to feel neglected,  I made a bigger bag for my computer cord and charger. And the silly part is, I have been meaning to make them for forever, and I kept putting it off, and to be honest, it was so quick! They were both done in less than an hour. Of course, normally I would have pieced a cute block for the outside, but I love the plaid fabric.

Now I am in the process of designing a messenger bag to carry stuff in. I know I won't get it done before I leave, but it is still fun to play!

Why Houston? I am going to Quilt Market. This should be so much fun. We are not vending so we do not have a booth which means I am not carrying 2 huge checked bags, one stuffed to the gills carry on and a briefcase that is so heavy it could take out a poor unsuspecting person if I should drop it putting it into the overhead bin! So nice to be unencumbered!
I am taking a checked bag (so I can bring home a little bit of stuff) and a small messenger bag.

Yes, I already have a messenger bag, that doesn't mean I can't design a new one!

So off to get ready for Houston, doing a little packing, sewing, designing...

Oh- just FYI- weather in Denver is weird. Two days ago it was almost 80 degrees. Last night it snowed. I am guessing the snow will be gone soon, though we may get more tonight before it melts.

But for today, it looks real pretty on the trees.

Weekend

I have discovered the one down side to not working a regular day job. When you work at home, you are always at work!

It is important to have some down time/fun time- even when you have a lot to do! Even when you can hear the work calling you from the other room.

Today, we took a little time and went on a hike. We went to Roxborough State Park. At first I was disappointed. It is fall, and since we went a little south, we did not head to towards the "color".

But, once we got going, the beauty of the area got to me and I was no longer disappointed.

We parked our car and wandered up to the visitor's center. This was one of the signs we saw before proceeding out onto our trail.

It is a little hard to read (sorry, fuzzy picture!), but it tells us what to do if we encounter a bear or a mountain lion. Ok. Well. 

I guess it is good to know, but.... mountain lion? Oh, and that we should be on the lookout for rattlesnakes. Snakes. Not high on my list of adorable wildlife creatures.

But off we went. And it was worth it.

At one point, we took the path up to a lookout. Amazing up there. And so quiet.

The only sounds I heard were the small insects buzzing past and the rustle of something in the brush. 

Nothing else.

No cars.

No music.

No noise at all.

Nothing. 

So peaceful.

And beautiful.

Of course, at one point, I fully expected to hear music, see Julie Andrews and watch the hills come alive!

A wonderful spot and less than 30 min from our apartment. Wow.

Not a big fan of this sign.... but everything has it's good side and it's not so great side.

On the good side, the sky was just so blue today to the east.

Hazy off to the west.

All in all, a lovely adventure.

p.s. yes, I did get in my machine quilting. I did not post pictures as it is not something you want to see yet. When it improves, I will show off.
