Scott's Quilt

This past summer, my cousin wanted to make a quilt for her daughter Sara's last year in college. She had never made a quilt before. We all sewed as kids, but over the years, with a busy life, she stopped sewing.

So we dragged out her old machine, browsed thru quilting magazines and I designed a quilt for her.

I called it, very original, Sara's Quilt. It came out great by the way! I wish I had a picture to post.

Now I need to make my son Scott a quilt- he reminded us the other day that he still needed a new one. So I am now making Sara's quilt for Scott. I think it will need a new name.

Here are some of the fabrics for the quilt- very masculine. Brown's, rusts,

I am usually drawn to brighter colors, but I think this is going to look very nice. His room already has beige and forest green colors in it.

The quilt has two different blocks. I started the star block. Here are some of the components.

Since we had so much snow on Wednesday- more than 2 feet by the way!- I was able to get a little sewing in.
I would show the finished block, but I didn't finish! :( why? Because I sewed them wrong!!
Yup, got on a roll and sewed one corner four patch turned around. Arggg!

So next time, I'll show you the block. In the meantime, here's my daughter trying to go feed the birds in the backyard- they were very hungry after the snowstorm!

Snow!

It snowed here yesterday- what a beautiful night! At 11pm, the snow had stopped, the air was so still and the trees were crusted with the heavy wet snow! Don't you just love a night like that? Magical! We tried to take a picture but it did not come out.

There are 8" +++ on the deck- this storm had no wind and the snow is so heavy; the railings are piled high with snow caps.

Don't forget- Today is the last day for the giveaway... very exciting! I have snowman bowls filled with entries. I know I could use an automatic generator thing, but this is more fun!

On another note, I am going to start making a block a week following the Civil War Quilts posted by Barbara Brackman. She is going to post stories and a block every week. Not usually my colors, but I am going to try, and try to use up some of my older fabric in this one. A fun project- check it out!
This is my Block #1.

Off to make Block #2 and then write instructions for the May Quilt in our "It's the BOMB!" series. Baskets. Flowers. Dreaming of spring!

Check out our web site- now would be a fun time to make either of our heart quilts- either Little Bits of Love from the"It's the BOMB!" series or Heart Strings from the "Wall hanging Wednesday" series. Both are a lot of fun!

So many quilts, so little time!

Happy New Year!

2011! Happy New Year! I hope you all had a safe and fun New Years eve! We had some friends over and we laughed, and ate and played games and generally had a good time. I hope that is how 2011 will be- filled with family, friends, laughter and good food!

So, have any of you made NYR? (New Years Resolutions?) I am not sure what mine will be this year. I could post the usual, I plan to exercise more, be a better person, finish my UFO's, ...

But that seems so predictable and prosaic.

The problem is, those are all good things to strive for. So, while I search for something more pithy to be my NYR, I will put together a plan for 2011. I do have lots to do this year.

1. Take a vacation to somewhere new. I have not been anywhere new in a while- too busy working and using vacation time to go to Quilt Market! Fun, but it's time for an adventure!

2. Work less. Play more.

3. Hmmm... play more. I like that one.

4. Play more.

In the spirit of play more, I am off to design, sew, read...

A happy and healthy new year to all!

Happy quilting

Kate

p.s. I am not calling them UFOs anymore- Kelly over at Charming Chatter has a new phrase- MUFs- Materpieces Under Fermentation! I like it! I am now a MUF girl!

New Years Giveaway

Wow! The holidays are almost over! Hope you all had a great holiday season filled with family, friends, good food...
Things here were a little busy; even the kittens were worn out!

Originally I had wanted to do a Christmas giveaway but I did not get around to it; just too much going on. So now it is a New Years giveaway! That's OK- it's still a giveaway!

So what am I giving away? Well... for the holidays I made a bunch of Martini bags for friends and relatives. So I made an extra one for the giveaway. Isn't it cute?

The bag itself is a patterned black satin and the inside is the beautiful blue satin print.

My cousin is addicted to making these bags- she's made even more than me! They are so much fun to make and even more to fun to give away!

But wait, there's more! I figured I couldn't just have on thing- not enough winners. So I have two more goodies to give away.
Next there is this great book using two blocks called "Pairing Up" by Nancy Mahoney.Lots of fun quilts in there!

And last, but not least, is a copy of our pattern called Crossroads thru Connecticut.

Most of us have a jelly roll hanging around that we have not figured out what we will use it for- but it was so nice we just had to get it! So here is an option for you.

The pattern uses a jelly roll, a background fabric and then something for the inner border. I made the cover quilt using a Bali Pop and purple solids but it is great in any colorway!

So leave a comment and tell me which one you would like to win. If you want to be in the running for each one, leave three comments! If you become a friend of this blog, you get an extra chance (or tell me if you are already a friend, and you get the extra chance!). If you post a blurb about this on your blog, leave me another comment to let me know and you will get another chance.

Oh- and if you Like us on Facebook, I'll give you another chance as well!

Leave a comment before the end of the day on Saturday, January 8th and I will post the winners after that (I will try for Sunday but you never know!). Be sure I have your email so I can leave you a message if you win!

Happy New Year!
Happy quilting!

CVQ Giveaway

Jackie over at Canton Village Quiltworks is doing another fun giveaway. She always has such great stuff! She is giving away fat quarter bundles from Sarah Fielke's line "From Little Things" by Lecien. Really cute fabric.

What did you do today? It was so rainy here- yuck. So I spent the day indoors sewing. Nice! I made a few more of my cute little Martini Bags. I am on a roll! And I decided I am going to do a giveaway next week- becuase giveaways are fun and becuase it is the holidays.

A few years ago a very nice lady gave me an unexpected gift at Christmas. I was so touvhed and surprised by her generosity that each year since then I have done something a little extra for someone. So this year it will be someone who visits my blog!

So check back next week for more information and in the meantime go visit Jackies' blog... she always has something going on over there!

Happy Quilting
