LI Quilt Show

We will be vending this weekend at the Long Island Quilter's Society Quilt Show. It will be held at the Garden City Field House, Garden City, LI on Sat 3/20 from 10am-5pm and Sun 3/21 from 10am -4 pm. Stop by if you are close by. It should be a great show-the theme is "Asian Inspired".
I'll be there, leg brace and all!

This is a picture of a Four Star tote I made to sell at the booth- usually I choose a color scheme that is not so subtle but I really like this one.

Have a great weekend!

A Lovely Week

This has been a lovely week. My daughter and her good friend C.J. just spent part of their Spring Break week with us. They hung out, went to Boston, went hiking and saw friends. It was wonderful having them around. We areally enjoyed it. So did the kitty- she got lots of attention and had more choices of who to cuddle with.

This weekend I also managed to write the directions- at least most of the directions- for 2 new quilts! How cool is that! I have had the ideas hanging around for a while, and this weekend the writing muse was strong so I went for it.

Now I have to make them! That's the fun part.

Pushing It

So... I have a hard time with limits. I am now 4 weeks post op this knee surgery and I am still only supposed to be up on it for maybe 15-20 min at a time. It is still swelling up quite a bit at times.

But... I have not been able to sew since I had the surgery. Oh trust me, I tried a few times, but with a long leg brace on it just wasn't comfortable! Last Thursday I went into a short knee brace- yea!- and so today I thought I would try a little sewing.

Hmmm... I told myself I would only sew a few minutes. So hard to do!

I have been participating in a BOM thru 3 Creative Studios and I only had a few days left to do the next block. So here it is.

I have also been working on a new pattern- it's a cute little bag and I have had one cut out and partially made for a while. So I worked on that as well. I will post a picture when it is done.

So now I am back on the couch, leg elevated with ice. Like a good girl. No one will ever know!

Knitting

So I have mentioned that while I am sidelined with this knee, I have been doing a little knitting.

What fun! I finished my fingerless gloves and a baby hat for a coworker's new grandson. Hopefully it will still fit him! Isn't it cute? I didn't have a baby to show it off on, so I had to improvise.

The pattern is from the booklet called "The second little Sublime hand knit book".

Next up is a scarf that I started before the holidays and it ended up in the basket gathering knots. How is it that when you put a project away, it doesn't move but manages to have knots when you start to work on it again? This scarf is a lit of fun- the pattern is in four rows- you use two different yarns and you work one one, then go back to the beginning, work the row across again with the second yarn, then turn it over and work the other way. I got the pattern at a wonderful shop called
The Village Sheep when I bought the yarn. Not sure the picture does it justice; it really is lovely.

When I get a little more mobile, I will start on my butterfly quilts. Right now I am working a some drawings.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Butterflies

A while back a friend of mine and I visited the butterfly museum in MA. And I took a ton of photos! I have always meant to create some quilts from these photos, but I have held back. Probably due to that inner voice that told me- you can't do this. You don't know how. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Basically, the idea of creating these quilts gave me butterflies!

So while I have been stuck here, unable to sew for a while, I have been cruising the web. And getting inspired while looking at other creative people's blogs and websites. And, lucky for me, Grace Howes of RedBarn Studios has given me a gentle push in the right direction!

So, I have decided to ignore the "bad" inner voice and listen to my little engine that could voice:
I think I can, I think I can!

Redirect

So, I have been a little down the last few days as it seems that my progress from this knee surgery has been going backwards not forwards. I won't share all the ugly details, but I have decided to redirect the negative and try to look for the positive.

Back to the "take the hit as a gift".

So in that spirit, I am working to finish a pair of fingerless mittens I had started months ago but never got around to completing. Here is the first one, and the second one is very close to being done.
Next, I am going to work on a baby hat. But I also can work on designs- I can't sew yet, but I can draw and play in EQ so I guess I might as well get going!
So enjoy this beautiful day ( at least it is beautiful here!) and get outside if you are lucky enough to be able to do that.

Knee Surgery

Boy was I wrong!
I thought that after I had my knee surgery, I would be able to get some sewing in. But this has been a little tougher than I thought it would be, so I am reduced to looking at other blogs and seeing what others are sewing.

And that has been fun! Just not quite the same.

Hopefully, I will get to that plateau soon where I can sit at the sewing machine, keeping my leg elevated, of course! And maybe all that blooging will inspire me!

In the meantime, I will enjoy the rest, snuggle with the kitty, do a little reading, a little movie watching and knitting when I am up to it.

Happy quilting!
